I got all the way to turning the heel and picking up stitches along one side, and when I ended up with four needles in play instead of three I consulted directions again-

So, I ripped it all and rewound the balls and shall attempt it again on a night that is not this one, because on my second attempt I managed to twist the stitches and only find out at the end of the first round. My achy fingers and frustrated brain declared that Knitting Is Over For Now and instead I am eating pizza and trying not to smash something. BAH.
